How can i read Kindle ebooks on my computer?

i just bought an ebook on my sisters kindle (it was alot cheeper than the actual book) but i go out of town alot and cant take it with me, but i took the file off the kindle and put it on my computer. only problem is its like AZW format i think and wont let me read it. is there either any converter software that will let me make it like a document to read or a software that reads kindle ebooks on the computer? please help i dont want to have to go out and buy the book!
